Georgetown Real Estate
Nicknamed the “Red Poppy Capital of Texas,” the scenic beauty of Georgetown, Texas has garnered it much attention as one of the state’s most beautiful cities. But it’s Georgetown’s quality of life and exceptional real estate market in retirement communities that has helped to give it another nickname, “The Retirement Capital of Texas.”
As the county seat of Williamson County, the nearly 30,000 people who call Georgetown their home awake every day to a wide range of elements that make their home town a distinctively beautiful place to live. Red poppy wildflowers bloom each spring in Georgetown, adding a wonderful color to the city’s many trails and parks which compliment initiatives to control graffiti, tree protection, landscaping and building design. Those famous red poppies are an integral part of the Red Poppy Festival held every year in October, a popular event that is only one of the many community fairs, festivals and parades that serve to bring this close-knit community together throughout the year.
The beauty of Georgetown is not limited to its natural landscape, but extends into its amazing collection of Victorian commercial architecture. In order to recognize and protect Georgetown’s historic central business district, the Williamson County Courthouse, along with 46 other buildings, were listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Since then, Georgetown has added the Belford National District and The University Avenue/Elm Street District to the prestigious list. These preservation efforts have led to Georgetown being named as Texas’s first city to be named a national “Main Street City.” Additionally, Georgetown is widely-recognized as one of the best places in the country to buy a historic home following an extensive restoration program in many of the city’s historic neighborhoods.
Georgetown Homes for Sale
Although Georgetown has always been a favorite place to buy a home in Central Texas among first-time homebuyers and families, it has become one of the nation’s best places to retire in recent years. Georgetown’s moderately warm year-round climate and location to both the big city attractions of Austin and the countryside, along with its excellent medical care facilities have attracted many retirees. The addition of the large master-planned community called Sun City Texas, developed specially for active adults over age 55, has added an additional 11,000 residents to Georgetown. Many other retirement communities are located in Georgetown, offering a variety of housing options and price ranges. The retirement community options, along with Georgetown’s amazing lifestyle have contributed led to the city being named as “The Best Place in America to Retire” by Retirement Places Rated in 2007.
